Roots in Sweden Project

Ancestry is a major focus at SHCC.

We continue to collect family histories as well as individual obituaries and other biographical information [over 17,500 obits].  Donations are welcome; most anything can be photocopied so the patron can still keep the photograph, etc.

One project in this area is the Roots in Sweden map. If any of your ancestors came from Sweden, do you know from where?  If you would like to share that information, please complete the form mentioned below. The locations will be marked on a large map of Sweden on display in the Halland Room. If you don’t know for sure, you may well find the information is already here.  Please ask. There are multiple ways to submit you ancestor's immigration information …

  1. Stop by the Heritage Center and pick up a form, complete and return.

  2. Call Chris Nelson - 712-621-2785 and he will mail one to you.

  3. Download the printable pdf form from the link below, complete and mail back.

  4. Complete the online fillable form and hit the submit button.

Do you have old photos, postcards, scrapbooks or other artifacts you don't know what to do with?

Please consider donating them to us by bringing or sending them to the Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center.  The originals can be scanned or photocopied so you can keep them. Perhaps the things you have will help fill in the missing gaps in our records. We know there is much information yet to be discovered!
